2017 Mallory Mile - We cycled Mallory to Milan!

This year saw the 16th year of the Mallory Park cycle event delivered by Hinckley Bosworth Borough Council in partnership with Cycling Mallory. The event saw an astonishing 228 cyclists attend the event, which included more than 100 children.

Collectively we cycled 868 miles this year, which is approximately Mallory Park all the way to Milan! Next year Russia hosts the World Cup, so as a target we aim to cycle to Moscow which is roughly double what we achieved this year.

The Mayor opened the race emphasising how 'cycling can easily be part of your everyday life, whether this be for fun, fitness or commuting, by encouraging cycling for everyone.' The event enables families and friends to cycle together in a fun and safe environment. Hinckley Cycle Racing club were on hand for children to try out their cycling skills over a timed course. If you were to ask your child to cycle 5 miles they might well shy away from that but we often find that cycling round the circuit with their friends means they achieve much more than that. It's a win win in getting your child physically active during a time where childhood obesity is on the rise.

Leicester Wheels for All attended the event and brought a massive range of adapted bikes that people were able to have a go on the circuit with. Leicester Wheels for All is an organisation which facilitates all ability cycling in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Their aim is to enable its participants to have safe access to many types of cycles and cycling, thereby promoting greater inclusion and increased well being. Giving people a chance to try these bikes gives an appreciation of the challenges that the less able in our community face when it comes to riding a bike.

Save the Date: Mallory Mile Cycling event will be taking place next year on Monday the 11th of June from 6 to 8pm.
